Everyone’s heard of the Korean 10-step skincare routine, and some of them think: “That’s crazy! You can’t possibly need all those products on your face.” It turns out you do.

1-2. Oil cleanser + facial wash = Double cleansing
Since the beginning of time, post-cleansing products advertise by telling consumers cleansers don’t completely wash off oil and debris. Skincare’s answer to this is double-cleansing. The process includes an oil cleanser followed by a foam or cream cleanser. The oil cleanser breaks down makeup (including waterproof ones), SPF, and sebum while the foam/cream cleanser deals with the rest of the dirt on the face.
3. Toner
All the gunk on the face has been washed off by double cleansing, so the toner’s role is to bring back moisture and the pH level of the skin. It’s is like a primer for the rest of the steps of the routine. Toners usually have botanical or active ingredients in them to help deal with acne, scars, pores, and other skin damage.
4-5. Essence, serum, ampoule
These three are usually confused with each other. All three are highly-concentrated with active ingredients that deal with individual issues. They are in small bottles with a dropper. Essences are thick and viscous compared to serums, but both terms can be interchangeable and merged into the term “emulsion.” Ampoules are way more concentrated and powerful than emulsions for faster-acting ingredients for skin emergencies.
6. Sheet mask
Sheet masks are fabrics drowned in serum. The fabric delays the evaporation of the liquid from the serum, making it long-lasting and allows the skin to bask in the serum for a little longer. Leave them on the face for 15-20 minutes to ensure the nutrients seep in. Then, gently pat the serum left on the face with your fingers-no need to wash.
7. Eye cream
The skin around the eyes is super thin and delicate. It’s prone to signs of aging, too. Eye creams avoid the development of fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles. It’s better to start early because the eye cream is more of a preventative measure than a cure.
8. Moisturizer
A cream moisturizer locks in the products from the previous steps. The products before the moisturizer are concentrated and target a particular issue on the face. On the other hand, a moisturizer is less saturated and generally geared to moisturize the entire face, not erase dark spots or reduce fine lines.
9. Sunscreen
In the morning, the sunscreen is a crucial part of the routine because it protects the face from harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer. The sun can also trigger premature aging and increase skin pigmentation. Without this protective layer, all the steps to erase dark spots and fine lines are put to waste.
10. Sleeping masks
Boost the beauty rest by applying sleeping masks. Because the body repairs itself during sleep, these masks are “mild enough for your skin to tolerate overnight” and aid the moisturizer in locking in the products from the previous steps.
Remember: you cannot achieve glass skin overnight. It requires patience and only testing out Korean products from a trusted supplier in the Philippines to guarantee quality and authenticity before putting anything on your precious face.
