Team-building is an important part of every workplace to help employees learn about each other and better understand their coworkers. However, many classic team-building exercises like trust falls, scavenger hunts, and bingo games are used so often that they only serve to annoy employees. Let’s look at six out-of-the-box team-building experiences your company can use to help employees learn how to work together.
Table of Contents
1- Experience Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting is a great team-building experience because the raft serves as a metaphor for the workplace or, more specifically, the project to which these employees have been assigned. Everyone has to work together for the good of the group or the mission won’t be accomplished. Above that, however, it’s also a fun time that your employees will remember for years to come.
2- Undertake An Escape Room Challenge
Not only is an escape room a fun way for employees to bond, but it will also give them insight into each other’s strengths and abilities. They’ll learn who’s good at solving puzzles, who’s good at critical thinking, and who’s good at thinking outside the box. At the same time, they’ll also be having a great time.
3- Go Bowling
Bowling is a great physical activity for teams because it requires very little strength or ability. One option is to divide the group into “teams” and offer prizes for the highest score, most strikes, or most spares. Alternatively, you can just let them have fun for a while and get to know each other without competition.
4- Host a Trivia Night
Another fun experience for a team is to join a local trivia night or pub quiz, where (depending on the size of your group and the team limit at the event) they can enter as a single team or split into smaller groups. This gives them the opportunity to share their knowledge, make persuasive arguments to convince others that they’re right, and a chance for glory. You could even plan your own trivia night and do trivia based on your city, industry, company, or fellow employees.
5- Do a Pizza Cooking Class
Baking a pizza is a great way to get teammates to understand each other. Depending on their cooking experience, it’s probably a good idea to buy pre-made pizza crusts. Each team can make a pizza with different toppings, work collaboratively to follow the instructions, and put them in the oven. Best of all, everyone gets to enjoy the food!
6- Try Rock Climbing
Indoor rock climbing walls are the perfect mixture of adventure, excitement, and safety. The group will be split into pairs (which rotate between climbs), allowing team members to have one-on-one time with each other member of the group. This strengthens both the collective and individual bonds within the group while also being quite fun.
With these six unique team-building experiences, your employees can learn how to work together as a team while having a fun time. While traditional activities might unite them through their annoyance at doing the same team-builders for their third or fourth company, these experiences will give them something more.
