The difference between direct route, static route, and dynamic route

0

According to the router learning routing information and generating and maintaining a routing table, routes can be divided into three types, including direct routes, static routes, and dynamic routes. The following definitions of the three are given, and the three routes are compared to understand the difference between them:

Difference between direct route, static route, and dynamic route

1. direct route

Direct route is discovered by the link layer protocol, and generally Indicates the path of the network segment where the interface address of the router is located. The direct route does not need to be manually configured.

As long as the interface is configured with the network protocol address and the management status, physical status, and link protocol are all Up, the router can automatically detect the link. The IP network segment address configured on the interface automatically appears in the routing table and is associated with the interface.

The dynamic interface automatically changes or disappears in the routing table.

2 Static Routes A

static route is a route that is configured on the router by the network administrator based on the network topology. The static route information guides the packet transmission. The static route does not need to be calculated by the router. However, it depends on the network administrator. Manual configuration.

In addition, the default route is a special static route. After the network management administrator manually configures the default route, the router will send the data packet to the default gateway when there is no matching entry between the routing table and the destination address.

3 Dynamic Routing

Dynamic routing means that a router can automatically establish its own routing table and dynamically adjust it according to network topology changes. The dynamic routing mechanism relies on the maintenance of the routing table and the dynamic routing information exchange between routers.

The routing information exchange between routers is implemented based on a routing protocol. The ultimate purpose of exchanging routing information is to find the “best” route through the routing table.

The difference between the two types of routes is

mainly distinguished from the advantages and disadvantages of the three types of routes and the use cases:
1 Direct-routing– There is nothing to say about direct-routed routes. Direct-routed routes can only be used for directly connected router ports. Non-directly connected router ports are There is no direct route.

2 static routing- Static routing information is private by default and will not be passed to other routers. Of course, the network administrator can also make it shared by setting the router. Network administrators can easily understand the topology of the network and set up the correct routing information. Static routes are generally suitable for simpler network environments.

3 Dynamic Routing – When the network is large or the network topology changes frequently, dynamic routing should be adopted at this time. The router can automatically calculate new routing information according to the relevant routing algorithm to adapt to changes in network topology.

Static routing is generally not appropriate for large and complex network environments. It is difficult for the network administrator to fully understand the entire network topology. When the network topology and link status change, the static routing information in the router needs to be adjusted in a large range. The difficulty and complexity of this work is very high, so dynamics should be adopted. The way of routing.
